Python3.x Python3 center() Method
The center() method returns a centered string of a specified width, using a specified fill character (default is a space).
Syntax
Syntax for the center() method:
str.center(width[, fillchar])
Parameters
width-- The total width of the string.fillchar-- The fill character.
Return Value
Returns a centered string of the specified width. If the width is less than the string's width, the original string is returned directly; otherwise, it is padded with the fill character.
Examples
The following examples demonstrate the use of the center() method:
Example
#!/usr/bin/python3
str=""
print("str.center(40, '*') : ",str.center(40,'*'))
The output of the above example is as follows:
str.center(40, '*') : ********************************

str.center(width[, fillchar]) function:
- If the width is less than the string's width, the original string is returned directly without truncation:
>>> str = "[www.]" >>> print ("str.center(4, '*') : ", str.center(4, '*')) str.center(4, '*') : [www.] # width is less than the string width fillchardefaults to a space:>>> str = "[www.]" >>> print ("str.center(40) : ", str.center(40)) str.center(40) : [www.] # fillchar defaults to a spacefillcharmust be a single character:>>> str = "[www.]" >>> print ("str.center(40, '?!') : ", str.center(40, '?!')) Traceback (most recent call last): File "", line 1, in TypeError: The fill character must be exactly one character long
